Our Story

From Calabria to Burnaby — a journey of flavor

A Timeline of Flavor

Every great pasta starts with a great story

1950s

Calabria, Italy

Tony Mauro grows up in the sun-drenched hills of Calabria, southern Italy. He develops his passion for cooking and hospitality at an early age, learning traditional recipes from his mother.

1960s

The Journey Begins

Tony travels from Calabria to Naples, where he boards a ship bound for Canada. An eleven-day voyage across the Atlantic to Halifax — carrying little more than his mother's recipes and a dream.

1960s

Coast to Coast

After landing in Halifax, Tony boards a train. Six days later, he arrives in Vancouver — the city he would call home forever.

1983

Anton's Opens

With three sauces, a four-burner electric stove, and nine tables, Anton's Pasta Bar opens on East Hastings Street. The neighborhood falls in love immediately.

1990s

The Menu Grows

Tony goes beyond his mother's traditional recipes, creating innovative new dishes. His philosophy: 'Cooking is an art. You have to be creative.' The menu expands to over 70 pasta creations.

2000s

A Vancouver Legend
